Jesus Is Life

Romans 14:7; Deuteronomy 32:14; John 2:7-10; Ephesians 5:18; Luke 22:20; Hebrews 9:22; John 6:53

The Best Is Yet to Come

The servants filled the jars with water, but in the process of pouring, the water turned into the finest wine. We can benefit when God performs a miracle, but His purpose in every miracle is to reveal Himself.

What did turning water into wine mean for Jesus?

First, let’s remember that wine is a symbol of joy. Wine is also considered a representation of the Holy Spirit.

Here’s where things get really interesting. Hebrews 9:22 tells us that according to the law, forgiveness can only be given when there is a shedding of blood. In Luke 22:20, Jesus uses wine to symbolize His blood. That sounds a little strange at first. But here’s what it meant: Jesus was referring to sacrificing His life (shedding His blood) so that we could have eternal life with Him!

Interestingly, the juice of a grape is called the blood of the grape (see Deuteronomy 32:14). Coincidence? Not at all! In the Old Testament, the water of the Nile River turning into blood represented God’s judgment, while in the New Testament, blood is the means of God’s grace.

Brothers and Sisters, are you seeing what Jesus was subtly, yet loudly, proclaiming? The miracle of water turning into wine was Jesus’ way of announcing that a new day was dawning! A new and better covenant was on the horizon that would bring permanent cleansing.

The wine was filled to the brim, more than enough, and a free gift! The wine was part of a celebration. The wine was a pure act of love, grace, and generosity!

Consider:

How can today's lesson impact your daily life?

Prayer:

Jesus, You are my joy and salvation! Thank You for taking my mess and making a masterpiece. I praise You, Holy Father, for doing what I could never do for myself. Holy Spirit, fill me to the brim! You provided more than enough ways for my salvation and freedom. I praise You for cleansing me completely with Your blood. Only through You am I forgiven, pure, and without guilt!
